Reading Night

I spent the night at Reading Night for Faith's school.  They have different activities in each room and you can wear PJ's to school.  Not sure what PJ's have to do with it, but the girls look forward to going each year.

 Making book marks.
 Sight word cake walk.

Eighth Grade Awards Assembly

I have sat through a lot of awards assemblies.  They had them almost every week in Australia, and I've seen a lot of kids get awards.  Today it was Spencer's turn to get an award.  We are so proud of him!!  All of the teachers could choose a student to give an award to and Spencer's math teacher chose Spencer.
Mrs. Graves giving Spencer his Excellence in Math Award.
I think Spencer was surprised because he asked us why we were all coming when he never gets an award. Way to go, Spencer!!  We couldn't be prouder of your hard work in eighth grade.  He is ready for ninth grade since he started eighth grade in February of 2014 in Australia.

Kindergarten Par-tay!

Today I helped in Faith's class for her end-of-the-year class party. They played summer BINGO.

 And ate lots of snacks.

Newseum

I don't know if Spencer loves me as a field trip chaperone, but I love it.  It seems like just yesterday I was taking him on a field trip to the farm in first grade, and I'm sure my days as a field trip chaperone are all but over.  Today all the eighth graders went to the Newseum in DC.

The antenna on the top of the World Trade Center tower and all of the newspaper front pages from around the world after September 11th.

I have to sneak pictures so they probably aren't the best quality :)  Yes, that is right, Spencer is the class of 2019.  The high school gave all the eighth graders these shirts and they wore them today.  I'm afraid 2019 will be here before I know it.

Kindergarten Tea

This afternoon we went to Faith's school to watch the kindergarten classes perform a brief song and recite a poem.

After their performance in the cafeteria, we went back to the class and Faith showed us her poetry notebook.

 Wonderful refreshments.
This girl is more than ready for first grade after going to kindergarten this year in Virginia and full- day kindergarten in Australia for six months.  She will do so great in first grade!

Spring Fling

This afternoon we went to Faith's school for her school's fete (I will use that word forever now even though no one knows that it means a school carnival in Australia :)
A cake walk while eating snow cones is the only way to go.

The kids got tickets for doing games.  I'm not sure I'd call touching a man's boogers a game, but they got a ticket for doing it.

Karate chops with the local Karate place.

When I saw the panty hose on the girls' heads I freaked out and pulled them off.  We don't need lice again.

It was very HOT! I think the kids thought it would be more like a fete in Australia with carnival rides and a lot more food.  The boys were there long enough to get a taco from the taco truck and then they walked home.  It was still fun without the expensive carnival rides.
