Soccer Time

The boys are busy with another season of soccer. Spencer's team is the Red Wolves. When they are the away team they wear white, so I guess they are the White Wolves on the away games?

James' team is called Super Sonics. James scored a goal the first game, and his last game they had to play in the pouring rain. The field was a muddy mess. James fell right before half time and wouldn't go back in the game. Who could blame him?

Here's the cutest cheerleader we've found.

School Dazed

Here we are about 24 hours before school starts at JFK airport for a lay over before we fly to our new house. It's about 3:00 in the morning in Utah, and we must board another plane with no sleep and then send off the kids to school the next day. I don't think this is normal.
Their first day of school.
These pictures say it all. We didn't take cute pictures on their first day with their teachers or showcasing new shoes and backpacks. We are just lucky to be in the school with a camera and capture the kids with sleep still in their eyes as they start this new adventure in a new school--with no sleep. Did I mention that already? James' teacher asked him to write what he thought about coming back to school. This is what James wrote:
"I wuz tir vis moneing."
Translation: I was tired this morning.

Aren't we all?
Spencer looks half asleep as well. His adventure on his first day was getting sent home on the bus. I told the teacher I would pick him up that day, but she sent him with the bus rider kids. I was at the school to get him and no Spencer. When she said she sent him on the bus, I panicked. He had no idea where to get off the bus, let alone I didn't even know if he knew which house was ours since they all look alike here and he'd only been home 24 hours. I guess the bus driver knew when to kick him out, since he was home when we got there.
Now the boys take the bus home everyday. I must admit this is pretty awesome. I'm used to driving to their school and trying to find them on the playground in a sea of kids who all look the same because of their uniforms. I'm definitely loving this bus thing. I still take them in the morning because we are still too tired to get up in time for the bus.

GAP

All the times I've been to Disneyland, I think I enjoy people watching almost as much as the rides. When someone had to sit out with kids on a ride, or someone needed to save a place for the parade, I didn't mind doing it so I could sit and watch people and read their T-shirts. One of my favorite T-shirts was a GAP Tshirt. We've all seen them, but this one had tiny print underneath the logo that said, "God Answers Prayers." I've had plenty of times in my life to know that this is true, but why is it that when life is comfortable and we are doing so well, we sometimes forget something so simple as GAP?
Look at this house!! This picture doesn't even come close to portraying what I saw when I walked into our home on the morning of Labor Day. From floor to ceiling, wall to wall, boxes everywhere!!! Moving is like having a baby. You totally forget the pain until you have to do it all over again. This move has been the most stressful for us in so many ways. It's quite depressing and a lot of work. It has taken everything to get our house so that you could even see a small part of our living room. Feeling so overwhelmed of the task ahead of me, I fell to my knees for a little partnering with the divine. (I think I just wanted the nine days straight of Faith's diarrhea to end.) I have to get rid of stuff and fast because we don't have room and I can't stand looking at it. One item we needed to get rid of was a full size bed that Cortney used when she was living with us in Long Beach. It's a great bed, but too big for our house now. We tried to sell it at a yard sale, but no luck. On one Tuesday morning, I decided to put it on Craig's list. Before I hit the "publish" button, I said a prayer that someone would buy this bed very quickly so I can go forward with getting my house in order. By that afternoon, someone had called on it and it was gone and out of my house the next morning. GAP.
Heavenly Father has also answered the prayers I don't have time to put to words. We landed in Virginia at 8:00 am after being on a plane all night with no sleep. The boys started school the next day. After the first day of school, I took the boys to get all their school supplies. I stopped at Costco for everything else we needed. On our way home, this bottle of Joy dish soap, fell over and spilled all over the school supplies and the back of my van. As I pulled up to our house, my visiting teachers were there waiting with dinner and they cleaned out all the soap from my van and school supplies. GAP.
My series of unfortunate events doesn't end there. I was driving on a little country road (OK maybe not that little, but nothing like LA) and I was staying to the right of the road after an oversize truck had passed me from the opposite direction. I went off the road a little where there was no shoulder and the back rear tire went totally flat and damaged the rim. Of course my AAA card is at home, but I was with my friend who called her husband. He came to our rescue and changed my tire and found a cheaper rim for me to buy. As he was changing my tire I noticed something on his shirt. That's right---he had on a GAP shirt.

Happy 90th Birthday, Grandma Field!

Today we celebrated Grandma Field's 90th Birthday.
We had a big luncheon with lots of family. All of Grandma's grandchildren were there except two.
The great-grandchildren played games after lunch.

We moved inside for a little air conditioning and a program.
The Penfolds playing Family Feud.
Pat and Lisa's family had a poem for Grandma.
Grandma led us in singing, "Here we Have Idaho."
The Field Clan.
Happy Birthday, Grandma!
I only hope I have as much spunk at 90 as you do.

Fun at the Farm

While we were in Idaho for Grandma Field's birthday, the boys had fun with cousins on the farm.

Grandpa Field took Greg, Spencer and James for a ride on his horse.

We went to Grand View's famous Emu-Z-um. It used to be an emu farm, and they have converted it into a museum.

We had never seen so much stuff in a room in our lives.

S'more Fun

Faith got the trampoline all to herself while the big kids roasted marshmallows.
It was the last thing the boys wanted to do with their cousins before we leave for Virginia.

Our endless summer is about over.

Discovery Gateway

We hopped on the Front Runner train today to head to Salt Lake for the Gateway Discovery Children's Museum.
We had never been here before, so we loved it (especially since all the kids are in school here so we had the place to ourselves).

The boys' favorite part was this ball thing.

Debuting on local news.
