Summer Days

I was feeling sorry for us because we were going to have one month of summer this year.  After we got back to Virginia to the heat and the humidity, I didn't feel so bad anymore. We can gladly just skip this and get to Autumn.  We wanted to go swimming today, but our pool passes were not activated and they wouldn't let us in. We did get to the pool this season before they closed, but I forgot my camera.  Here is our solution to try and stay cool when we couldn't get into the pool.

On the Road Again

Seriously the best part about driving across the country was seeing the Hodges.  Almost twenty years ago the Hodges lived in the same house with us at BYU.   We had the downstairs, and they had the upstairs and we shared a house and some wonderful memories for four years.  We love them so much, and it was the highlight of our journey to stop and spend the night with them in Wisconsin.
Driving through Chicago. Maybe one day we'll come back and actually stop.
We lived in the car for four days.  A lot of this went on.
I think Doug is pointing the way home, not necessarily pretending to shoot someone.
We left on a Monday from Idaho and on Thursday night at 2:30 in the morning (I guess technically Friday morning) we rolled into town to our house that we hadn't seen for two years.  We were pretty excited to see this banner the Browns made for us.  We are finally home!

Crazy Horse

I remember going to Crazy Horse Monument when I was a girl and wanted to come back and see if it was finished.  I kind of laughed because it looked like it did last time I was here almost thirty years ago.  I guess it's a slow going project.
The boys were so impressed when they saw it they didn't even get out of the car, so we took the girls inside with us to the museum.

This is what it will look like one day.  Who knows when that will be.

Mt. Rushmore

We drove across the country via Mt. Rushmore so Doug could get some more of the states he needs in his quest to be in all 50.  I'm glad we came this way; I hadn't been to Mt. Rushmore since I was about ten.

These rams/goats are everywhere near Mt. Rushmore.
We even stayed for the lighting of Mt. Rushmore.
Not a bad stop if you have to drive all the way across the country :)

Devil's Tower

From Utah to Idaho and then on to Montana and Wyoming, we are working our way across the country to our home in Virginia.  We took a detour to check out Devil's Tower in Wyoming because what else do you look at when you are driving across the country?

Some pretty scenery on our drive.

The girls love Queenie the horse.  They are thrilled when we go to the farm so they can ride her.
