Baltimore's Inner Harbor

After Ft. McHenry, we took the Hodges and Lucy to the Inner Harbor.
This gigantic pink poodle was in the visitor's center.

Anchors away

James, Faith and I toured the submarine with Lucy and the Hodges while...
Doug and Spencer rode the paddle boats.

We ate dinner at this food court. Imagine that, Faith was drawn to the candy machines.
On our way home from Baltimore, we stopped at the DC Temple Visitor's Center.

Capitol Tour

On Monday, we rode the subway down to DC with the Hodges to go see the Capitol.

Justin, James, Tyler, Amber and Spencer

This is the statue that is on top of the Capitol Building.
Our tour guide was our friend Jason who works for the House. Thank goodness for Jason.
The Rotunda.
Old Senate Chamber.
James in the Rotunda.
I told Spencer to go stand by Father Junipero Serra from California.
Amber, James and Tyler with Brigham Young.
When our tour was over, we ate lunch in the basement. I'm pretty sure most families don't eat down here.
Off to the Botanical Garden.

What an awesome tour we had.

Monuments and Memorials

After our tour of the Capitol, we did the Monument walk. James, Spencer and Amber at the base of the Washington Monument.
The boys at the World War II Memorial.

Justin, Amber, Tyler and James on the steps of the Lincoln Monument.

Snack time.
Faith was asleep for most of the monuments.

The Korean War Memorial.
It was absolutely beautiful walking around the Tidal Basin surrounded by all these cherry blossoms.

Our last Monument was the Jefferson.

So if you've done this walk, you know it's not a short walk. We sure walked these kids all over. OK, so the Hodges did an amazing job walking. As you can see from the pictures my kids chose the stroller route.

DC, Day Two

Our first stop on our second adventure with the Hodges to DC took us to the Air and Space Museum-- always a favorite.

The museums were packed, of course, but we got great seats for a demonstration on flight.
James and Justin volunteered and tried to prove that air under an object will lift it up. Hmm, not sure if James got the hang of it.
Trying to see if Mr. President is home.
We ate lunch at this place.

Thanks to Lucy for the eagle-angle photos.
On to the Natural History to say Hi to Rexie.
The kids loved the gems and minerals. Who would have thought?

Spencer wants to go in the castle everytime. How many times do I have to tell him it's just offices?
Going home on the subway. We are so glad the Hodges and Lucy came to see us!! Our bed and breakfast is back!
