The girls and I made an unexpected trip to scout camp today. Someone forgot extra contacts and lost them in the swim test. This certain person is border-line hating scout camp, and the one thing that would push him over the line would be not seeing anything for a week. So the girls and I drove for three hours to deliver contacts to scout camp.
The lake at Camp Marriott in the background.
We weren't going to drive all that way for nothing. Near Natural Bridge, VA is the Virginia Safari Park. We had never been so we decided to go check it out. You can buy a bucket, or three, of animal food, and then you start driving through all these animals who want to jump in your car with you.
We were laughing so hard because we wanted to leave but we had a llama's head in the back seat. The signs make it very clear you can't roll up your window if an animal's head is in the way. We just started driving and hoped the llama got the hint.
These camels are greedy suckers and stole one entire bucket of food.
It was all fun and games until the slobber started flying. This guy had way too much slobber and Hope wanted nothing to do with feeding anyone after that.
After the drive through part, you can walk around a small little zoo.
We almost started crying when we saw these kangaroos. Man I miss Australia.
It was way too hot for these roos. They just wanted to sleep in the shade, and I don't blame them one bit.
We stayed at the Safari Park until it closed then went looking for a place to eat dinner. This was the only restaurant we could find. Good thing it was pink so the girls were convinced we could try it.
Very cute 50's diner. I was kind of worried we were the only ones there. The food was pretty good, and then we were off for our three-hour drive home. What a fun, unexpected adventure!
