War Memorial Concert

Tonight we went to the War Memorial for a special concert and performance from the Band of the Royal Military College of Australia.  We first watched a last post ceremony at their tomb of the unknown soldier.  A man played a song which is similar to our "Taps."

We sat on the lawns of the War Memorial and looked out over Anzac Street leading to the Parliament building.

The first thing on the program was a ceremony called the Beating Retreat.  It is a ceremony handed down from the British Army.   It was a lot of marching and drumming and firing of guns.

Our favorite part was the precision drill team.  They were awesome.

The last part of the program was a concert from the Band of the Royal Military College of Australia.  They played a lot of great songs and ended with the 1812 Overture and six cannons being fired.
It all ended with a fireworks show.  It had started to sprinkle rain a little throughout the night, and by the time the fireworks went off, it was raining pretty  hard. We sat in the rain to watch the fireworks and  went home very wet.
