We have been trying to see as much of Canberra as we can, but I don't know if the kids care about any of it except the kangaroos. After we went to the National Museum of Australia, we went looking for kangaroos and hit the jackpot at Weston Park.
Kangaroos in Canberra are like deer in Virginia. They are everywhere. We see lots of road kill kangaroos, and we've been warned to never hit one with the car. One of Doug's favorite lines from the traffic report on the radio is, "Watch out for the dead roo on Gundaroo." (That's a street.)
Kangaroos are nocturnal and are most active close to sunset. We've heard it's great fun to go after them at night with a flashlight, but it wouldn't be a flashlight because they are called torches here.
We love to watch the kangaroos hop. If you ask Hope what a kangaroo does, she will start jumping up and down and say "hop, hop, hop."
Kangaroos really box each other. I think that is why the boys love them so much and said after today that it was the best day ever.
Faith loves to look for joeys.
