Chasing Koalas (and other things)

Our camping neighbors gave us the low down on the best place to see wild koalas.  Kangaroos are everywhere in Canberra, but no koalas.  We followed the directions to this road lined with gum trees (eucalyptus) and started spotting koalas.

They were EVERYWHERE.  We lost count of how many we saw.

 Mom and baby.
Different koalas.  I don't think either of those is a baby.

Some friends in Canberra didn't believe you could see koalas walking down the road, but sure enough you can see koalas walking down the road.  We pulled over and followed him until he jumped in this tree.  He was probably terrified of us.

Our camping neighbors also gave us the low down on where to see glow worms.  Of course you have to go when it is completely dark or you won't see them.  We found the glow worms alright, but right after this picture, we heard weird animal sounds and the kids freaked out.  I don't know why they are scared of being in the woods of Australia in the complete dark hearing animals that sound like they are killing each other and maybe might kill you next.   Doug reminded me this is Australia and the wild animals are not really that vicious.  I took the kids to the car anyway :)

Going to the car in the dark with weird animal noises close by is always a good idea.
