Bay of Islands, Russell

We woke up this morning in the Bay of Islands, a bay in the very northern part of New Zealand that is full of.....islands.  When we got off the cruise ship, we got on a boat that took us to the town of Russell, New Zealand's first capital city.

In Russell, we hopped on a tour bus that took us to the sites.  It is a very small town so there aren't that many sites.

We rode to the top of a hill for a beautiful look out of the bay and our ship.

These red flowered trees, Pohutukawa, are the New Zealand Christmas tree because they blossom at Christmas time.

We had an ice cream cone break.  The ice cream in New Zealand is much better than Aussie ice cream.

This is the oldest church in New Zealand.  The holes are bullet holes from a battle with Maori.

Meat pies are much better in New Zealand too.
