Christchurch

We traveled on a bus from Akaroa to Christchurch, and the bus dropped us off and picked us up in Christchurch at The Canterbury Museum.  We didn't spend too much time in here, although it looked like a great museum. We were mostly interested in the restrooms :)

After punting on the Avon, we travelled around the city on this Tram.

We got out at Cathedral Square to look around.  The earthquakes of 2010-2011 did a lot of damage to this Cathedral.

This is the Cardboard Cathedral they built out of cardboard to replace it.

We went to a museum dedicated to the earthquake.  This statue fell in the earthquake.

The bell fell off in the earthquake too.
We thought this bike was so cool.  After the earthquake, people could bring their bikes to a park and hook into a generator.  They powered an outdoor movie for everyone by people riding their bikes all night to produce the electricity.

Rebuilding Christchurch with Legos.  It's hard to believe in some parts of the city that the earthquake happened almost three years ago.  A lot of the city looks like the earthquake just happened a few months ago.  It seems that very little is being done to rebuild.  I guess there are a lot of things held up in insurance claims right now and it's hard to get the ball rolling.  We can say one thing about Christchurch, they have plenty of parking :)
We really loved the ReStart Mall.  This is a shopping mall built out of shipping containers.  It was only supposed to be temporary after the earthquake, but people like it so much they are thinking about keeping it.

We wandered around the Botanical Garden for a minute before we got on our bus back to Akaroa.
